Distraction is often a symptom, not the root problem. When direction feels unclear—or struggling threatens the identity of being “capable”—avoidance offers immediate relief. The more they avoid, the harder progress becomes.

WHAT’S AT STAKE

Every avoided challenge costs more than time.

Every avoided challenge costs more than time.

Teens build confidence by facing difficulty, making decisions, and recovering when things go wrong. When those repetitions keep getting postponed, dependence can follow them into adulthood.

THE WAY FORWARD

Potential becomes progress through guided action.

Teens become more self-directed when they practice making meaningful choices, following through, and learning from what happens next—with support that challenges them without taking over.

Who is Capable Self for?

Capable Self is designed for capable teens ages 14–18 who would benefit from clearer direction, stronger follow-through, greater confidence, or more ownership. They do not need to be failing or in crisis—many simply need a trusted guide and structured opportunities to practice.

+

Is this tutoring or therapy?

Neither. Tutoring teaches specific academic content, while therapy addresses mental-health concerns. Capable Self is mentorship focused on meaningful goals, planning, action, reflection, and increasing independence. It can complement either, but it does not replace clinical support when that is needed.

+

What if my teen is hesitant?

That is why every family begins with two free conversations. Your teen gets space to share their perspective and decide whether the relationship feels useful. Frank will only recommend moving forward when there is enough willingness and buy-in for mentorship to have a real chance.

+

Where does mentorship happen?

Mentorship is available in Buffalo and virtually. The format is chosen around the family’s location, the teen’s needs, and what will make consistent participation easiest. Libraries, cafes, or any agreed upon location.

+

What happens after the first four weeks?

The teen, parent, and Frank review what changed, what was learned, and what still needs attention. If the teen is engaging, the family sees value, and everyone agrees that continuing makes sense, mentorship moves into the next four-week stage. Founding families keep the same $400 rate throughout the complete 12-week program.
